Japan is undergoing a supply crunch of Asahi products, such as beer and packaged tea, as the beverage leader deals with the effects of a major cyber-attack that has disrupted its operations in the country.

Most of the Asahi's manufacturing facilities in Japan have been at a halt since the start of the week, after the attack affected its ordering and delivering system, the firm has stated.

Major Japanese retailers, including FamilyMart stores and Lawson, have now warned buyers to expect lack of stock of Asahi products.

The company has put on hold orders and shipments of its items with "no clear timeline for restart", FamilyMart mentioned in a announcement on Thursday.

The business - which is one of Japan's largest convenience stores - noted that its Famimaru selection of tea beverages, which are produced by the brewer, are projected to be in short supply or sold out.

"We sincerely apologise to our customers for any inconvenience resulting," said the retailer, noting that it is partnering with Asahi to resume the distribution of the goods.

Another major retailer, additionally reported that it anticipated a number of Asahi products to be in low stock from now.

The outlet said it aims to increase supplies of substitute items to reduce the disruption on consumers.

Japanese grocery store network, Life Corp, additionally warned that items from Asahi may soon run out.

The Asahi Group is the biggest brewing company in the country and furthermore controls Fullers in the UK and worldwide labels like Peroni beer, Pilsner Urquell lager and Grolsch brew.

Japan accounts for about 50% of its total sales.
