The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

• Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
• She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
