Guillermo del Toro's new film Frankenstein has been one of the most awaited films of 2025. A collaboration with Netflix, Del Toro's take on the dark narrative faithfully adapts based on Shelley's timeless novel.

After the character (not a monster) teased on Sept. 30, audiences wondered: how soon will we see the preview for Frankenstein?

As it turns out, it has just arrived. Unveiled on October 1st — a fittingly spooky date — the Frankenstein trailer displays how the creature is built within the scientist's lab.

The trailer further illustrates the creation stirring, causing havoc and mayhem while seeking out the creator who left him.

The lives that are shattered after their encounter as they meet are also highlighted. It looks phenomenal and tragic, and teases this will easily be essential viewing for film enthusiasts in the autumn season.

The Director's Perspective: Beyond the Horror Genre

The director has been involved in numerous horror-related projects for a long time.

At first glance, the film clearly appears to match that description. But, interestingly, Del Toro himself has stated that it shouldn't be classified as horror.

"It's a heartfelt narrative in my view. It’s as personal as anything. I’m asking a question about being a father, being a son… This isn't a scary movie — by any means."

Leading Actors

With Oscar Isaac in the role as the scientist Victor Frankenstein alongside Jacob Elordi as the being brought to life, fans of the original story understand the layers that go beyond mere horror.

Happily, the wait is nearly over. Frankenstein will receive a limited theatrical release for awards consideration in chosen venues from mid-October onward, ahead of streaming on Netflix on Nov. 7.
