Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
